The 7th grade class has just finished their study of Matisse’s mid period paintings with a focus on still lives. While I was looking through his work there was one painting that really stood out to me, Red Fish, 1911, it was full of life and pattern and a real observation of the water’s refraction. In our classroom I set up a similar still life with Ms. Shauna’s gold fish for the day, a vase of plant life, antlers and a Mexican blanket. Here is a selection of the 7th grade work, other of the work can be seen on back to school night.
