Contour Drawings

The 5th & 7th graders are in the midst of Drawing Review and we’re revisiting Right Brain vs. Left Brain; to make the shift from left to right we begin with blind contour drawing where one focuses on details of of the subject and draws it without looking at the paper. This process can be very frustrating at first but eventually one can relax into it and virtually loose all sense of time, this is a great way to warm up and improve our hand-eye relationship. After we warmed up I gave our class the challenge of  pen and ink (no erasing) contour drawings of their shoes. Here are just a few examples of each.
