Composition with Mr. Bones

We’ve been working on our basic drawing skills over the past two weeks, primarily focusing on line and value lessons from Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Today we married the two in a negative value drawing with Mr.Bones, our friendly classroom skeleton.

Assignment: Use a view finder, a paper with a 1.5″ square opening, and hold at arms length to compose a picture around Mr. Bones. Translate what you see in the viewfinder onto black construction paper using a white pencil. After the line drawing is complete use the pencil to shade the light, be sure to observe how the light is actually falling on the subject.
