Matisse Still Life

In our latest unit the 6th graders studied the life and work of Henry Matisse, from his early career with the Fauves to his later work with cut outs.  Students learned about the Fauvist movement characterized by flat shapes and controlled lines, with expression dominant over detail. For this assignment students drew in this style using bright and expressive colors to describe a still life.
